Children born with smaller eyeball (Microphthalmia) or absent eyeball (Anophthalmia) also benefit with artificial eyes. The socket may be small in case of small or absent eyeball at the time of birth and unless they are expanded with custom conformers or artificial eyes they remain small and are cosmetically unacceptable. Gradual increase in the conformer size does help in expanding the socket remarkably well as seen in this child.

Sometimes the eye socket may be contracted and may not retain any artificial eye. Surgical correction is warranted to make room for the prosthesis and also for augmenting the lost volume. The results are quite encouraging like in this case.

Eye may need to be removed in some conditions like cancer (Retinoblastoma) of intractable infection (endophthalmitits) though the disease is cured but patient is left with disfigured eyes that are not acceptable. Custom artificial eyes could be a solution to this problem like in these cases.

The eye may become bigger in size and disfigured (Staphyloma), the larger disfigured eye is a cosmetic blemish that can be improved remarkably well with surgery (evisceration with orbital implant) and Ocular prosthesis as was done for this case.
