Frequently Asked Questions

Q.
What problems should I expect in the artificial eye?
A.
Ideally a well fitting artificial eye should not cause any problems after initial period of acclimatization by the eye tissues, However there may be mild discomfort due to lack of lubrication in some cases and any tear supplement should take care of the situation. Occasionally the socket may get infected due to poor hygiene and it needs to be examined and treated with suitable antibiotics.
Q.
Can I take parts in sports?
A.
Yes, but be careful to keep your normal eye as well as artificial eye protected with protective spectacles made up of Polycarbonate. You can even go for swimming but make sure you are wearing swimming goggles to protect the artificial eye from being lost in the swimming pool.
Q.
My eyelids do not close over the artificial eye completely. What extra precaution should I take?
A.
You should use an oil based lubricants (like Caster oil, or Silicon Oil) to keep the front surface of the eye clean and lubricated.
Q.
How soon a child born with microphthalmia or anophthalmia should start wearing prosthesis?
A.
Child born with Microphthalmia or anophthalmia should start wearing prosthesis as soon as possible to prevent socket contraction and help expand the socket if present. We have fitted a custom conformer as soon as 6 week of life to start the process of socket expansion.
